They refused to choose a table: rudeness or proper management?

In fact, there are several reasons why you might not be seated at an attractive table. The most common – the table is already booked by a specific time. Of course, you can insist that you be seated for him, even agreeing to a time limit (before the arrival of guests who have booked a table in advance) and a menu choice, since some dishes may not be prepared for the kitchen at your own time, and the waiter – to serve you. The latter will be the second reason why you may again be told no. And this is not at all out of the harmfulness of the hostesses (if you weren’t rude, did not swear or stamped your feet), but because there is a certain sequence of seating that allows you to control the flow of guests from each waiter. Therefore, seating the guests in the hall, the hostess also monitors the equal load of waiters so that the service is correct and you do not have to wait long for either the waiter or your order.

Each institution also has its own seating parameters: a table for two, three, four, etc. Therefore, if you came alone or together in the evening and pretend to occupy the only large table, you may be denied, as for a restaurant this will be a loss of landing of a large company. Of course, there are times when the hall is empty, and you are almost the only guest who came in for a meal in the afternoon, but you are still not seated at the desired table. This may be due to the fact that hostesses and waiters have rules that they cannot violate. In such a situation, you better contact a manager who can easily resolve this issue.

Sometimes, when you want to book a table, you are told that the restaurant does not have this option, or, sitting down at the table, they say that you have 1.5-2 hours. All this is due to the fact that restaurateurs approach their institution thoughtfully. They know exactly how many plantings per day should be in the restaurant so that it brings good profit. Therefore, they simply cannot allow the table to stand idle without guests or the guests sitting (occupying the table) for several hours without ordering anything. This usually refers to small-sized restaurants located in the center, where it is more appropriate to pay a high rent for a large number of guests, rather than high food prices. Again, restaurants open so that people come to eat and not sit. But for communication it’s worth going to bars, pubs or coffee houses where you can sit at the bar or just chat at the bar.

And finally, the ridiculous options that I met only in Russia. You may not be seated at the table you like if it is the manager’s table, the table of the owner or the owner’s wife / lover. But it’s good that such situations are becoming less and less!

I hope that now, if you can’t be offered the table you like, you won’t think badly about the hostess or the waiter who really wants you to eat deliciously and be satisfied with the visit to the chosen restaurant.
