Herbert Brockel is a 30-minute drive from Cologne city center, but you will dine at one of the “100 Best Restaurants in Germany”.
Having considered a few moderate restaurants, we move on to cheaper establishments. Brauhaus Sion is a traditional beer hall with wood paneling and many local Cologne dishes, such as reibekuchen (potato pancakes) and sauerbraten (beef marinated in vinegar). Brauhaus often provides the stage for local musicians performing traditional music.
The generally accepted comfortable rustic style of the Wackes restaurant is unlikely to betray one of Cologne’s best establishments. It serves traditional Alsatian cuisine, while flammkuchen (Alsatian pizza) is considered the main dish. This delicious dish is made with cream, sour cream and bacon. As a dessert, you can treat yourself to a portion of caramelized banana and popcorn ice cream.
